ABOUT ME

Know Your Food was founded in 2019 with a single mission: to help the most people I can achieve their goals. I approach each of my clients with fresh eyes to develop customized strategies.

I have personally been on a long (and always ongoing) journey to improve my and my families health through making the best food and cooking choices that I can. I want to impart what I've learned to you and to help others live their best lives. Let me help you take some of the Trial and Error out of making these changes.

Over the past 6 years I have made it my personal goal to learn as much as I can about nutrition, health, and how the foods we eat affect our health and bodies. Not only for weight loss purposes, but for disease prevention and better living. I am currently taking formal courses on Nutrition, Wellness, and Health Coaching. 

I've read books, news and magazine articles, and watched all the leading food and health documentaries; and I will continue to do so. For the past year and a half I have been working at a Wellness Center, gaining more professional knowledge and skills in the roll of nutrition on health and with helping patients.

Here is my food journey story:
As a child I was over weight and had frequent stomach problems. I've struggled with my weight for most of my life. No one had ever really explained to me that what I ate could and was effecting me in so many negative ways. It wasn't until high school that I started to make the connections and correlations between food and my health. Unfortunately, during high school I also started getting migraines. Often times I would get them twice or more a month, and when I did get a migraine I would be bedridden for hours, if not days.

While attending college I started reading about food production and the laws regarding food. I was very often shocked and horrified by what I was reading. This spurred me on to make major changes in what I was eating and how I viewed food all together. Starting around 2011 I started the process of making ingredient swaps in meals we were already making. I was paying more attention to reading labels on packages and learning what it all meant. At first I just tried to make what I was already cooking as healthy as possible. Cutting out anything unnecessary and adding as many healthier items as I could. We (my now husband and first child) also started buying as many organic products as we could.

The next step was to start cutting out meat from our meals. It didn't happen all at once. We already didn't eat much beef and pork, and we reduced poultry more and more as the weeks went on. First it was Meatless Monday. Then meatless days more and more frequently. Then we were eating vegetarian 90-99% of the time. This required a whole new way of shopping and cooking. At first I felt like I didn't know what to cook anymore. I didn't know what to look for at the store, or even where what I wanted was located. And reading labels and understanding them became all the more important.

Then these past almost 3 years we have been eating vegan/whole food plant based. It's taken a long time to get to this place. There has been a lot of trial and error, trying things that didn't work, and it is an ongoing learning process. But I am SO Happy we made these changes! All these years we've been getting better, improving our health and our lives. After my second son was born I weighted the most I'd ever weighed in my life. After that first year of going vegan I lost 40lbs and have cured my migraines!
